After completion of the course, the successful ap­plicant should be thoroughly familiar with all relevant aspects of CPDLC/ADS applications. This course shall qualify applicants to operate with CPDLC/ADS including the description of the data link system and applications, network and subnetworks, flight planning requirements for data link flights, implications of flights departing under minimum equipment list (MEL) relief, and implications of planned and unplanned network outages on data link operations.

 

Training consists of:

 

GENERAL

  • General understanding of CPDLC/ADS operating procedures

  • Specific associated phraseology

  • General understanding of the technique and technology

  • Characteristics and limitations of the flight deck human-machine interface 

  • Overview of CPDLC/ADS environment and system descriptions

  • Need to use the ICAO defined format for entry of the Aircraft Identification

  • Operational procedures regarding the transmission of  the generic emergency flag

  • Indication of CPDLC/ADS capability within the ICAO flight plan

  • Handling of data source errors (discrepancies between navdata sources)

  • Incident reporting procedures

  • Crew Resources Management and associated human factors issues
